California craft beer summit 2016
Monday, September 5th, 2016
It is with as little hyperbole as possible that I write, that the California Craft Beer Summit last year was the best beer event I’ve ever attended. Being held in Sacramento really was icing on the (yeast) cake. To be honest, I really didn’t expect the California Craft Brewers Association to hold the event in Sac again this year with so many other great, and arguably better, “beer cities” in the state. But here we are, just a few days away from what looks like an even better 2016 CCBS.
This year the event stretches over a 3 day period, September 8th-10th. Late Thursday afternoon the summit kicks off with an Expo Hall Preview Event, primarily an opportunity for industry folks to network with each other and vendors. Throughout the 3-day summit, food and beer pairings will be available at a new Culinary Marketplace, and the regional California brewers guilds will pour beers from their respective members, many of which will be rare and specialty brews. Some of the Tap Talks on Friday will have brewers showing off their speciality brews, and Chef Demos will showcase even more food and beer.
Saturday the expo portion of the summit wraps up with more educational sessions and a concluding panel discussion about the “The Craft Beer Boom” with some of the biggest names in the California craft beer world. A couple of hours later the largest California craft beer festival begins on the Capitol Mall. Over 165 breweries (a bunch of which do not yet distribute to Sacramento) will pour more than 450 beers, again many of which will be rare and specially brewed beers.
If you are not able to attend the Summit, you are in luck. I will be there Friday and Saturday and I will be taking over the @BeersInSac Twitter account and live-tweeting many of the educational sessions and tap talks, and of course sharing all of the tasty beers.
