It seems like the craft beer community in Sacramento is spoiled. We have some of the best beers in the country brewed right here in our own backyard, and with events like upcoming The Art of Beer Invitational on January 30, we get a bunch of great breweries all under the same roof and a really cool way to experience them.

This will be the fourth annual iteration of the Art of Beer. Hosted at the McClellen Convention Center in North Highlands, this year's event will showcase 36 different breweries and 4 cideries, tasty food and beer pairings from some of Sacramento's best restaurants, and an exclusive beer-inspired art experience created by the brewers and some of California’s finest artists.  A Silent Art Auction will be held throughout the night to purchase the pieces, with the proceeds going to Ales For Autism.

The brewery lineup is impressive with the Bay Area and Sacramento well represented. There are some choice brewers from other parts of California too, as well as one each from Nevada, Oregon, and Colorado. Provided will be 100sq feet (10x10) area's for breweries, and 600sq feet (20x30) area's for sponsor breweries, in which they can highlight their beers and represent their establishment, with brewmasters, owners, and representatives present to talk with fellow beer enthusiasts.

There are several major sponsors of the event, one of which is Sac’s own New Glory Craft Brewery. Owner/head brewer Julien Lux told me that they will have a 600-square foot space in which they are planning an “in-your-face” display with a taproom feel, and they are “coming out big." There will be 4 or 5 beers debuting from New Glory at the event. Lux sees the Art of Beer as a great opportunity to show that Sacramento can compete with the big craft beer cities like Portland, San Diego, and Denver.

21st Amendment Brewery, also a headlining sponsor, told me a bit about what they have in store for the event. I got in touch with Rick Piccirilli from the brewery:

Q - Is there anything specific you can tell me about what 21st Amendment is planning for the Art of Beer festivities?

A - Have you ever seen "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou" before?  Oh, and beer.

Q - Who will you have attending to rep the brewery?

A - 21st Amendment Brewery Brewmaster & Co-founder Shaun O'Sullivan will be in da house! A few other 21st Amendment team members, including myself, will be there representing as well.

Q - What are you looking forward to most about the art of beer?

A - The Art of Beer will be one of the first major beer events taking place in the greater Sacramento area in 2015.  We are very excited for the camaraderie that will take place among local beer enthusiasts and industry folk, and for The Art of Beer to set the tone for the craft beer community in 2015.  Lastly, a big shout-out and thanks in advance to Rawi Nanakul and his team for putting together such a quality event.  Cheers!

Chef Chris Davis-Murai is the culinary director and will be curating food and beverage pairings from some premiere Sacramento restaurants. Last year's beer menu is available on the event website, and if that list is any indication of what this year's will be like, Davis-Murai should have some delicious pairings to taste. Chris shed some light on what he has planned for the culinary portion of the event:

"My vision for The Art of Beer is bringing beer to the same level as the fine foods our Sacramento chefs' have to offer. Pairing restaurants who already have a stellar beer list and think about what can go with their artistic endeavors."

"Attendees can be very excited about the food pairings and the breweries they represent. Sierra Nevada is coming back with their sustainable foods and sausages, and we are welcoming back Blackbird this year to be paired with 21st Amendment."

"We are working on outdoing the previous years as usual, but very excited about the restaurants coming and the beers we are pouring at the new venue, which is bigger and nicer than last year."

The Art of Beer Invitational will be a truly unique way to experience some of the finest craft beers in the region. If you haven't purchased tickets, Beers In Sac has you covered. Use code "beersinsac" for $10 OFF General Admission and $5 OFF VIP. Visit link for more details:
